BAST leadership surveys Beijing Society for Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products

At the afternoon of June 17, member of Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice President of BAST Meng Fanxing visited Beijing Society for Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products to learn about the operational status and project delivery of the society, in the company of class-2 inspector of BAST and head of BAST’s Department for Societies Affairs Li Jintao and deputy director of Beijing Service Center for Science and Technology Societies Wang Jian. 

Executive Vice President and Secretary General of Beijing Society for Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products Pan Ligang reported on the operational status of the society. Currently, the society has 210 individual members and 45 corporate members, operating as a class AAAA social organization. The society constantly works hard on promoting academic exchange, benefiting farmers with science and technology package program and conducting science popularization and publicity, focused on setting and revising industry (corporate) standards, holding academic discussions and technical training and holding laboratory opening day events and helping bring science popularization to campuses, which are supported and recognized by sci-tech workers.  

Wang Zhiling, Vice President of Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences and President of Beijing Society for Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products, said the society was founded in 2009 and is the only society of its kind in Beijing- Tianjin-Hebei region, ranked among the top in the country in the field of quality and safety testing of vegetable products. BAAFS pays great attention to and generously supports the work of the society, which will inspire vitality, conduct academic exchanges on quality and safety of agricultural products, nutritional quality evaluation and young scholar training, and leverage its strength of personnel, technology and equipment encompassing the quality and safety of agricultural products to win the social support. Wang Zhiling thanked BAST for its generous support to the society. 

Meng Fanxing expressed recognition and support for the work conducted by the society, pointing out that the society makes positive contributions to changing people’s livelihood, safeguarding the quality of life and raising the quality and safety levels of agricultural products in Beijing and surrounding areas with science and technology. While keeping a firm foothold on the new development stage, carrying out new development ideas and constructing new development patterns, the society’s personnel are expected to establish a high-level awareness of technological self-reliance, reflect the forward-looking and guiding nature of the society and ensure quality and safety of agricultural products in line with the speeches by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the CAS &CAE academicians conference and the 10th national congress of CAST. 

Meng Fanxing emphasized that the society’s personnel are expected to further academic exchange and tell good stories about quality and safety of agricultural products to the general public; constantly focus on quality, dig deeper into quality and safety and standards of agricultural products and secure the discourse power at home; perform its laboratory function, remain authoritative and constantly invest in quality and safety of agricultural products and maintain its uniqueness and distinctiveness in this field; BAST will continue working with the society to work hard on quality and safety and jointly build platforms for professional and personal growth of science and technology workers. 

Director of scientific research office and international cooperation office of BAAFS Yang Guohang, director of Beijing Research Center for Agricultural Standards and Testing Guo Xiaojun and President of the Institute of Plant and Environment Protection of BAAFS Yan Jiye made work reports respectively. Related officers of BAST’s Department for Societies Affairs and Beijing Service Center for Science and Technology Societies participated in the discussion meeting.
