Capital Sci-tech Innovations Exhibition & Yunnan Heroic Anti-epidemic Deeds Exhibition opened in Yunnan

In order to deeply carry out the decisions and instructions made by the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping regarding COVID-19 prevention and control, adapt to the regular epidemic prevention and control situation, help with significant tasks of national epidemic prevention and control efforts with science popularization and further increase the public confidence in overcoming the pandemic with scientific development and technological innovation, under the guidance of CAST and organized by China Science and Technology Museum, BAST held “Game between Mankind and Infectious Diseases--Capital Sci-tech Innovations Exhibition & Yunnan Heroic Anti-epidemic Deeds Exhibition” under the theme “joining in the fight against pandemic and sharing the future”. 

On June 9, the launch ceremony for “Game between Mankind and Infectious Diseases—Nationwide Itinerant Exhibition of Capital Sci-tech Innovations & Yunnan Heroic Anti-epidemic Deeds Exhibition” cosponsored by BAST and Yunnan Provincial Association for Science and Technology took place at Lijiang City Science and Technology Museum. This itinerant exhibition was organized by Beijing Science Center, Beijing Development Center of Popular Science, Beijing Association of Science Education Museums, Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Museum and Lijiang Association for Science and Technology.  Secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of Beijing Association for Science and Technology Ma Lin, Vice Mayor of Lijiang City People’s Government Wei Niya and Vice President of Yunnan Provincial Association for Science and Technology Lu Bin attended the launch ceremony and delivered speeches, while Vice President of BAST Chen Weicheng and President of Lijiang Association for Science and Technology He Hongyan attended the launch ceremony. The launch ceremony was hosted by deputy office director of Lijiang City People’s Government Li Hongcan and attended by a total of over 100 persons including persons in charge of over 40 member entities of Beijing Science Center, Beijing Development Center of Popular Science, Beijing Association of Science Education Museums and Lijiang Citywide Science Literacy Leadership Group as well as representative teachers and students from Fuhui School in Gucheng District of Lijiang City. 

The first session of the itinerant exhibition in Gansu concluded successfully on May 18 after two months of show, involving 57,500 visitors in total, reproducing the power of science and technology in the fight against the pandemic in varied forms and with enriched content, will attended and received by all walks of life. The Yunnan session of the itinerant exhibition continued the operating ideas of the capital sci-tech innovations exhibition, focused on spread and popularization of scientific thoughts and methods, remained based on combination of original works and exhibition education, incorporated local characteristic resources of science popularization and guided viewers not only to appreciate innovations but also learn innovative methods, thinking and spirit.  

This session of itinerant exhibition consisted of 5 exhibition areas themed “prelude”, “exploring and discovering invisible worlds”, “innovation guards life and health”, “development enables coexistence and harmony” and “heroic anti-epidemic deeds in Yunnan”, as well as 1 research learning area, which exhibited 53 physical installations and 62 exhibits (including equipment. Compared with the original exhibition, this session retained the complete ideological context and design style and retained the cutting-edge sci-tech innovations emerging in the epidemic prevention and control in Beijing, expanded the exhibition space and scale of exhibits and incorporated digital interactive installations and online cloud exhibition. 

Moreover, experts were invited to the expert classroom during the itinerant exhibition to deliver ad-hoc reports titled “mission and dedication: people’s scientist Gu Fangzhou”, “impression of Red Cliff” and “post-COVID-19 thoughts” as a means to carry forward the spirit of scientist and spread scientific thoughts and methods behind the innovations using actual persons and events and true affections.  

To satisfy the needs of different age groups for science popularization, this session of itinerant exhibition also incorporated subject-matter research learning courses called “small mask, great wisdom”, “young epidemiologists” and “360 offense and defense drill”, which involved middle and primary school students in research learning practice during the exhibition. These entertaining research learning activities allow students to foster interest, develop scientific thinking and feel the scientific spirit behind science and further solidify their confidence in fighting the pandemic with science, while enriching their scientific knowledge about fight against the pandemic.
