ICASE Chairman visits BAST

On the afternoon of May 5, Chairman of International Council of Associations of Science Education (ICASE) Zhang Baohui visited BAST. Secretary of Leading Party Members Group of BAST Ma Lin attended the meeting, and class-2 inspector of BAST Chen Weicheng participated in the meeting.

Secretary Ma Lin welcomed the visiting Chairman Zhang Baohui. He presented the basic information about BAST, with a focus on efforts made by Beijing Association for Science Education Museums and Beijing Global Network of Science Festivals to popularize science and improve science literacy of citizens. He said science popularization efforts in the new era are suggested to pay more attention to spread of scientific thoughts and methods in order to allow teenagers to look at the world from a scientific perspective. 

Chairman Zhang Baohui thanked for this meeting. He presented basic information about ICASE and its efforts in science education and talent development of teenagers. He said the work of BAST in building science popularization working mechanisms is worth learning and suggested high-quality science popularization resources of BASEM be pushed to the rest of the world, allowing the world to “read and understand China”.

Meeting participants also engaged in deep communication about venue-school integration projects, subject research and learning, thematic exhibitions, talent development, science popularization events and academic exchange, laying a good foundation for further cooperation. Related departments of both sides will consult with each other to further integrate resources and engage in deep cooperation on specific projects. 

Related officers of the Department for Science and Technology Popularization, Department for International Affairs, Beijing Development Center of Popular Science and BASEM participated in the meeting.
