Scientific thoughts and methods salon session II & inauguration ceremony of master chemistry teacher studio held

On April 9, jointly sponsored by Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center, Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association, College of Chemistry of Beijing Normal University, Beijing Chemical Society, Beijing Society for Information Technology in Agriculture and Capital Normal University High School, the scientific thoughts and methods salon session II & inauguration ceremony of master chemistry teacher studio was held at Capital Normal University High School. CAS academician Fang Weihai, director of Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center and secretary general of Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association Zhang Xiaohu, president of Beijing Haidian Teachers Training College Luo Bin, president of College of Chemistry of Beijing Normal University Fan Louzhen, secretary general of Beijing Chemical Society Sun Genban, director of middle school students chemistry competition committee of Beijing Chemical Society, vice principal of Capital Normal University High School Ren Haixia and 30 other chemical experts and special-class teachers from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing Normal University and Capital Normal University High School participated in the event.

This master studio engaged academician Fang Weihai as the director of its expert consulting committee, Beijing Normal University professors Shao Jiushu, Fan Louzhen, Ou Yangjin and Xin Guowen, Tsinghua University professor Luo Sanzhong, Peking University professor Wang Yingxia and president of Beijing Haidian Teachers Training College Luo Bin as members of its expert consulting committee, and Beijing Normal University professor Sun Genban as the host of the master chemistry teacher studio. Chemistry team leader of Capital Normal University High School He Wenjie, chemistry team leader of the High School affiliated to Renmin University of China He Xin and the chemistry team leader of the Second High School attached to Beijing Normal University Sun Min serve as members of the chemistry teacher studio, while chemistry teacher of Beijing No. 2 Middle School She Pingping, chemistry teacher of Capital Normal University High School Chen Bohan and chemistry teacher of Beijing Yuying School Zhang Miaoxin have been selected as seed teachers.

Zhang Xiaohu said that bringing scientific thoughts and methods into classroom at the stage of basic education can provide important support for cultivation of teenage sci-tech innovators, allowing for development of a number of exemplary disciplinary thinking courses and a set of innovative practices through deep integration of science and education in parallel with educational efforts. With the joint efforts of everyone involved, this initiative will cultivate a large number of teenage groups having the potential of scientist.

At the event, outstanding student representatives from the chemistry subject of Capital Normal University High School communicated with academician Fang Weihai through letter, freely talking about their aspirations to contribute to the country scientifically and their understanding of chemistry learning. After listening to student speeches, academician Fang Weihai said he is very pleased to see what they had achieved in chemistry learning, expecting them to sustain their strong learning interest and endeavor to become outstanding chemical scientists to contribute to the scientific research in the motherland. He also said the practice of BAST initiating the formation of the master chemistry teacher studio and integrating disciplinary thinking into classroom teaching is very necessary, adding that he would also continuously support the development of the studio.

On the scene, many more activities also took place, such as comments on demonstration class presentation and discussions about the studio’s work plan and tasks.
